Black Widow: Natasha Is Reminded That She’s An Avenger in New TV Spot

Marvel Studios’ brand new Black Widow TV spot shows Red Guardian reminding her adoptive daughter, Natasha that she’s not just a spy, but an Avenger.

A brand new TV spot for Black Widow features Nat being reminded that she’s an Avenger. Marvel Studios is gearing up to return on the big screen after exclusively continuing its Phase 4 storytelling through Disney+. Scarlett Johansson’s long-overdue movie will see her founding MCU character reunite with her old family as they take care of unfinished business from their past.

Directed by Cate Shortland and written by WandaVision scribe, Jac Schaeffer, Black Widow works around Nat’s death in Avengers: Endgame by being set in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Even with the inadvertently extended marketing period, plot specifics for the movie are still unclear at the moment. Instead, promotional materials are focused on introducing Nat’s Russian family which includes Red Guardian, Melina Voskotoff, and Yelena Belova. Together, they battle it out with the mysterious villain only known as Taskmaster.

But, while Nat revisits her past in the Black Widow standalone movie, which appears to be far removed from the bigger MCU, she’s still reminded that she is an Avenger. In a new TV spot released by Marvel Entertainment’s official YouTube channel, it’s Red Guardian who mentions this, citing that Nat isn’t only a spy, which she originally was, but also a member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. This, unfortunately, didn’t seem to have any emotional impact on his daughter. If anything, she might be annoyed by this comment. Watch the video below:

In a previously released TV spot, it was also Red Guardian who mentions the Avengers, as he asks Nat why she didn’t bring her fellow heroes to help. Based on the other footage released for Black Widow, this happened on the heels of Nat and Yelena breaking Alexei Shostakov out of prison. It’s still unclear why he’s in jail, but given how his daughters took the risk for the mission means that he’s important to what they’re aiming to accomplish as a family. Melina, however, is nowhere to be seen. It’s curious how Red Guardian is aware of Nat’s outings as an Avenger, but from what’s been shown thus far, she’s very proud of her association with the team. But since this takes place on the heels of Civil War, being reminded of it may not be the best thing for Nat.

With only a few weeks to go before Black Widow releases on theaters and drops on Disney+ on the same day, anticipation is mounting for what could very well be Johansson’s final MCU movie. But despite the long wait, early social media reactions imply that it will be worth it. Aside from being surprisingly emotional, the movie also clearly highlights Yelena as the one to continue her sister’s legacy, as she’s tipped to be the new Black Widow.
